The Role
A good scheme that combined a great quality of work with some of the best social events of any comparable scheme in the City
I was entrusted with some fairly complex pieces of work.
Management were on hand to guide and help me, but I happened to be placed in a department that was very busy so I received less than others
In one department I was very busy, and in another I was practically workless for one day
A good degree of responsibility, including producing department-wide briefings on a topic and chairing a small meeting
I learnt very useful drafting skills, and (perhaps more importantly) some very good tips on networking
The Company
Quite a few people were on holiday which dampened the atmosphere somewhat, but generally all levels of the firm interacted well.
It was well organised, with clear goal setting for the applicants and a good amount of time set aside for a project that had to be completed and for social events. My only criticism would be the fact that you change departments after one week, which doesn't afford you the chance to embed yourself in a department and discover exactly what it's like.
The company did try to give me as stimulating and interesting work as possible, however in the quieter department I was in it was very difficult to provide this.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Only 15 out of 40 vacation scheme students are be taken on, which is pretty low compared to other law firms.
The Culture
A fantastic social scene, with the early morning briefings giving a great opportunity to bond, in addition to well thought-out post-work social events.
It will come as no shock that central London costs are high
A good mix of bars and clubs, and the firm also frequently paid for transport for us to visit other areas of London
Plenty of sports and pro-bono work, and also opportunities to have a quick pint with the trainees after work
