About You
It was good to experience all aspects of the firm, as well as talk to other students in the same position. It was also great to get to know people at the firm outside the office plus going up the shard was incredible.
Most people in the office smiled and made the effort to talk to you. When shadowing the trainees, my work seemed to be valued by her.
It was all very clear and structured and I never felt worried at any stage.
It made me more determined to achieve higher grades in my degree, especially first year. It was also useful to hear tips on applications which will come in useful!
The Company
I liked the fact we received a booklet with everyone's face and university in it as it broke the ice. I enjoyed the different sessions and don't feel like they were too short or too long. I also enjoyed the social element of it, seeing people outside of the office.
There was no awkwardness, and it was helped by the layout of the room as well. On top of this, the different activities forced us to talk which I liked as everyone got to speak to each other. Going up the shard was brilliant and I saw the fun side of a partner which was great.
I feel like everyone there genuinely wanted to help each of us, and many people gave up their time so I appreciate that. Also the trainees genuinely seemed interested in helping us to reach out goals.
The graduate recruitment team explained the process clearly and in depth, as well as giving us some tips and showing some common mistakes people make.
We were able to meet people at the firm in both an office and a social environment which helped us to understand the people more.
Everything Else
Although we were not paid, I would not be expected to as I did only do an afternoon of work which wouldn't gain the firm any money. However I felt greatly remunerated by a luxury hotel room which was nice
Plenty of time for that over breakfast, lunch and dinner and even at the top of the shard, demonstrating that the employees enjoy getting to know future employees.
They were really helpful in breaking down any confidence barriers you might have, especially outside the office environment as it felt less formal. Lunch networking was fine, hard to eat while talking, but many questions were answered.
Yes, there were many groups and activities they can join, these were presented to us on a powerpoint, not many of the trainees I spoke to were in any groups. However, they did socialise with other employees in different ways, which is great.
I think it cleared up a lot of stereotypes I had in my head. You really got to be involved and talk to such a variety of people and understand if it is somewhere you can see yourself working.
