    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • A few struggles at the start as the role was new but this settled into a fairly enjoyable placement

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • At various points I have been running meetings and have had a number of people coming to me for help.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The people I was directly working with were great, but between projects my task manager was not very supportive

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • While on projects there was plenty to do and always more if you asked, while between projects finding work was a struggle

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • At all times I was contributing something real to IBM and for 2 weeks I was the sole representative of IBM on one project and had a great deal of responsibility during that project overall. Other projects varied.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have greatly improved my communication, teamwork skills and general work ethic.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Work was a top priority and people generally knuckled down but team interactions kept everyone smiling.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • IBM' work placement scheme is very well organised, unfortunately this was the first year that this department had taken on interns and there were several bumps to iron out.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Training and development was always available and I was treated like every other employee with regards to accessing it.

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • IBM employs a huge number of graduates with a wide range of job opportunities within the organisation

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • For those that wanted it there was a strong social element to the placement. Lengthy commuting does get in the way of this

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is very expensive but well worth it. Commuting from outside is cheaper but inhibits socialising.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Huge variety of things to see and do in London in the evenings

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • IBM runs a volunteering scheme that enables employees to help at recruitment events and a host of other things. Its impossible to do everything.

    4/5
