The Role
Given a lot of responsibility within your job role. Always new opportunities that you can get involved in and all staff are approachable.
After a brief period where I was getting to know the business I was soon given opportunities to become involved in projects and also manage a project.
Generally very good and all staff are accommodating however my task manager was situated on a different site to myself making communication difficult at times.
Constantly some work to be doing to pass the time however I was not often required to work extra hours outside of my contract. If you want more work the opportunities are available.
Responsibility grew over time but ultimately afforded the opportunity to manage a project within the department.
Picked up invaluable skills and contacts and learnt many lessons about the workplace environment and how to best succeed within the business world.
The Company
Worked in an office that is currently in the process of downsizing so a lot of moving around but atmosphere between colleagues is often light and fun.
Lots of regular meetings with Personal Development Manager and seminars on maximising your time whilst on placement and in the future when on a graduate scheme.
Every quarter held a seminar event hosted by a senior management member with the opportunity to learn how they succeeded within IBM and tips on how to do it yourself.

Working from home
Would be an outstanding scheme to become involved in. Currently going through an internal hiring process.
The Culture
Large group of interns so we were able to set up social events outside of work and at weekends.
Portsmouth area is generally pretty cheap though with IBM there are jobs all over the country so cost of living will vary.
Go to uni in Newcastle where there is a wealth of choices but Portsmouth is ok.
Only activities set up by interns or other friendship groups.
