The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement year. I have been given fantastic opportunities by my manager to go out and visit external companies on work experience days, run my own projects/campaigns and network with other areas of the business.
I was instantly welcomed into the team by my colleagues. They didn't make me feel like a work experience student I was thrown into important work straight away.
I have been given constant support from my managers including weekly catch-ups one on one to check my progress. These meetings allowed me to raise any problems and suggest anything I was keen to do some work on.
I felt I could have been busier and that sometimes I had quite a bit of bandwith to do more. This was due to the nature of the work I was doing where I was relying on waiting for other people to get back to me before I could continue to the next step.
I was given a lot of responsibility from the start and thrown in the deep end. This was the best learning curve for me as it forced me to be brave and talk to new people in order to get my work done.
I think this experience will be really useful for my degree as I have learnt how to manage my time, problem solve, decision make and organise over the course of this year. I also learnt to have more confidence in my own decisions.
The Company
We are a very close knit team in my department. We even had an 8 week long bake-off competition where everyone got really involved. We also enjoy going out for drinks after work and karaoke!
The placement scheme organised by the Grad Team was really well organised. The best part was the Charity challenge where we worked with the other interns in teams. In terms of my day to day role I felt my work was quite adhoc depending on business need at the time as opposed to planned out 12 months in advance.
The company were more than happy for me to attend all kinds of training including copywriting, account based marketing, teach-in sessions, salesforce training etc. and if I asked to join in with things they were happy to support that financially.

I would like to return to Fujitsu and the grad scheme sounds like a really good programme to be involved in for the 2 years after university. They encourage their interns to return.
The Culture
I was based away from the majority of the interns which I thought would be a disadvantage. However there were lots of opportunities to go and visit the other offices to see them and by making the effort to stay in touch I now have some really good friends.
The cost of living is very expensive where I was based but having an income allows you to go out and socialise it didn't hinder me too much.
Really good nightlife, everything that you could want, loads of retaurants/bars etc.
Lots of opportunities to get involved in CSR projects, team nights out etc. Even an intern/grad trip to the races.
