The Role
The culture is Fujitsu is formal but relaxed, and the people are all very welcoming. The placement scheme was run and managed exceptionally well. I felt that Fujitsu actively supports placement students and are very willing to invest time and resources into student’s development. It was the first year that the Fujitsu had run a Commercial Industrial placement, so it got off to a slow start. However after the second month of settling in (to be expected from most jobs in this discipline) the work load picked up and I was given tasks and subsequently full projects of my own. Fujitsu has provided me with a wide breath of experience, across various disciplines.
I was always welcomed and valued by Fujitsu staff. Whether working with other Industrial placement (IP) students or senior management; the culture within the business is open and relaxed. Colleagues are always willing to help, and would act upon my opinions or ideas.
I changed managers in the new financial year. Both had different management styles, and both of which worked well. They were very approachable, and would often new project, development areas and push me to further myself. The IP supervisors also offered well structured support and guidance. Something I found particularly helpful was the mentoring scheme with Grads, and it allowed me to see another side of the business. The IP Skills workshop which was run by the IP management team was especially valuable also.
My work flow varied, but I was always encouraged to seek out new projects and self manage my work load.
As expected, my first months were mainly administrative and getting to know how things worked, and getting to grips with my role. After this I was allocated smaller projects, with my year culminating in management of a larger project, something that would be available to all UK based Fujitsu employees
This year has not only improved my understanding and knowledge of business practise but also improved my soft skills, such as networking and time management. This year has provided a good base to build from.
The Company
Different offices had different atmospheres. People were always open and friendly, but ultimately it was a office environment and work had to be done.
The talent management team couldn’t be faulted. They provided various networking and community events as well as valuable development schemes. Perfect.
Fujitsu aren’t afraid to invest resources in student development. I attended various traing courses or a range of business competencies. There is a culture to actively push students to further themselves.

Working from home
Fujitsu offer a huge number of opportunities for graduate jobs, something that I am actively looking into now.
The Culture
Even though I commuted from home, the IP community was always welcoming. This was actively promoted through team activities run by the talent team.
I lived at home and commuted, but the cost of socialising was about average. Reading had loads of pubs and clubs that cater to the student population.
Again, It was fairly average, although there are intercompany bar crawls etc.
Fujitsu has a few social/sports clubs. Apart from that, there is often team dinners or trips out.
