The Role
I've really enjoyed the work, and it's really easy to motivate yourself when you see so many cars driving around and you know that you're helping to make them.
I was part of quite a small, new team, so everybody was really keen to welcome me and I was really comfortable from day one.
My manager has been great; he gave me a lot of guidance in my first few weeks and is always around if I want to ask him something even though he's really busy, which has been a big help.
As we were waiting on people outside of our control for some of the things that we had to do, some days could be quite slow as there wasn't a massive amount going on. Other days, you'd never stop and be in meetings for 8 hours.
I was given my own project that I was responsible for during my placement, which was great as it made me feel like I was really contributing and making a difference, instead of just doing odd jobs here and there.
A lot of the skills that you learn when you're working are things that you just can't learn in a classroom, which makes it a really valuable experience.
The Company
This varies from team to team, but I got on really well with the people that I worked with, so it was good fun to be in the office.
There were a few hiccups at the start with site access, but after a few weeks, everything fit into place.
It's a great place to continue studying while you work; I have done technical training and a module that contributes to a Masters degree while I've been here during work time.
Working from home
The route from undergraduate placement to a grad scheme position is seamless, and most people decide to stay on.
The Culture
Lots of social events going on with people from work, and other people on placement.
More expensive than the north, cheaper than the south.
The nightlife isn't great.
Lots of company promoted events; the company will even pay for you to do something completely unrelated to work in your own time every year.
