The Role
A very good placement. The workload itself was interesting and varied, fuelling my interest in the field. This was married to the actual IP scheme provided by Fujitsu at very stages throughout the year.
Very approachable staff, a great office atmosphere, very supportive and fun. Likewise, my colleagues were professional when they need to be and would work to help us.
I had good support from my manager. They were approachable and would often hold team meetings and one-to-one meetings to keep up-to-date with your individual progress and any issues that have arisen.
Being in finance it is designed that you report the figures at the end of the month, therefore, month end will naturally be a busier period for finance professions. Likewise, if during the month boredom creeps in, then the managers are more than ready to provide you with more work.
From the start you are given certain responsibilities for smaller areas of our remit. Moreover, over the course of the year, bigger more involved ad-hoc tasks can be given to you, so the level of responsibility is very much linked to how much responsibility you want.
Training was predominately on-the-job training. I was taught skills needed for the job. However, some of these skills can be transferred, i.e. my Microsoft Excel Skills.
The Company
There was a great atmosphere, between knuckling down and working hard during Month End, to all taking a 10 minute break or so to chat with the team. It was a great atmosphere because everything was done in moderation!
The role I was placed in was well organised, with great scope to improve roles and responsibilities. For the IP scheme within the wider Fujitsu, the program was great fun, giving placement students a chance to network and meet fellow IP's, graduate students and even senior managers.
There was not much personal training and development within the IP scheme, but this is made up in the graduate scheme where prospective employees can finish their professional qualifications. So very well worth it in the long term.
Subsidised Canteen
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
If you take full advantage of the networking opportunities and the events within the IP year there is a big chance that you will be able to get a job with them. You will have to go through another assessment centre, but Fujitsu are more than helpful in encouraging you how to do this.
The Culture
There was a very good scene between the students, especially during the IP events where it was a rare opportunity for us all to be in the same place at the same time.
I lived at home as it was cheaper to commute than live closer. Therefore the cost of living was manageable given the savings I made.
There is a great nightlife in Reading, both in terms of clubs, but also pubs and restaurants! A very good night out
Given Fujitsu's close partnership with their chosen charity Shelter, there was a lot of encouragement from the company to help. Even by allowing all employees 1 CSR day each year to help the community
