The Role
I have had a variety of tasks to do so that I could learn and try as many things as possible while I was here.
I was treated just like a member of the team, got stuck in from the word go and was given responsibility.
Manager and wider team were really supportive, if I was ever not sure of something they were always approachable.
Always had tasks to do to fill my time. If ever I felt like I did not have enough to do I could have asked for something extra from my manager (can't say that happened though!) Some tasks were not as exciting as others, more admin type jobs but I think you will get that with any job that is office based.
Lots of responsibility for certain parts of our project, I was left to lead them. I had weekly meetings with my manager to make sure that I was on the right track so it was not too overwhelming.
Absolutely gained some skills for life. Learnt some really in depth things about technical engineering aspects whilst learnt some valuable project management skills which will stay with me fro life, whether I choose to stay in engineering or not.
The Company
I had a lot of laughs with my immediate team as I got to know them but the office as a whole is a place to work, everyone is getting on with their tasks so we save the parties for leaving dos and birthdays.
My manager had a good idea of the tasks I could do while I was there so everything went pretty smoothly.
There is an electronic training that you can do which is really great-almost like free lectures and it is a very good way to geek up on company knowledge or particular technical aspects you need to learn more about. You have an allowance that you can use on "training" outside of work for extra curricular things- I did some sports training.
Financial Bonus
Above 25 days holiday
Graduate scheme is available and it is a really good way to see different parts of the business as you can go on rotations. As I have done an undergraduate placement and my manager will give me a good reference I can go through a fast track assessment centre to join the grad scheme if I want.
The Culture
The company didn't organise anything but you meet everyone early on, exchange mobile numbers or see them around so you stay in touch and go out socialising!
Most people live in Leamington. Rent here is cheaper than the south but more expensive than Northern unis. Same goes for general living costs. On the salary you get for an undergraduate you can be independent and you salary comfortably covers living costs.
Lots of young people about as there are 2 unis close by but you need to go into Brum for a really good night out
Opportunities through speaking with colleagues-nothing set up directly through work per se.
