The Role
Great placement, plenty of work to keep me busy and mentally active, I didn't find myself stood behind a photocopier or making cups of tea all day - not by a long shot!
Everyone I met and worked with was incredibly supportive, taking time out to not only tell me what I was doing but explaining the value to the business as well as encouraging me to change the processes to suit myself and what I thought would have been relevant.
Good supportive scheme in place to guide you through your placement. External to the "day to day" manager which allows a different perspective and thoughts to guide you through
It's never boring! Such a placement and big business never stands still and if you do feel like your workload is getting light there is the option to "giveback" to the community in a number of events that you can get involved in - both internally and externally to IBM. One day you can be in the office, the next you can be painting a community fence.
Guided through what my responsibilities were at the start and had the options to take on more and more including some important business related decisions once you had proven your competency.
Beyond my degree I have picked up many transferable skills including presenting to senior employees, a business based thought process, an eye for detail and data analysis
The Company
A good balance between a friendly chatty atmosphere as well as knowing when work has to be done
The recruitment team were very helpful as well as giving you plenty of routes of contact throughout the business
An awful lot of time was invested in bringing me up to and beyond the standard they would expect.
Good solid company to work for if you're dedicated to a work hard play hard lifestyle.
The Culture
Good community
Living in Winchester was perhaps a mistake - expensive rent and going out prices does put a limit on spending! However, living in Eastleigh, just down the road is much cheaper alternative
A small town in the south downs doesn't compare to NYC nightlife
As previously mentioned "giveback" to the community and beyond was endless
