The Role
It has been very interesting and busy... I have managed to learn many new life skills but there are certain things revolving around my daily role which I would have preffered to have been different.
Although I can visually see that my work goes towards a team goal, there are many occassions when I feel my work is relatively unecessary or my skills could be better utilised. I think this was down to their perceived 'value' of a placement student.
My Manager will always support me and feed back any information I ask for, but it is often hard to book time to discuss things with him. Also, it can often take a matter of days or in some cases weeks to get an email reply if we are not in the same office.
I always have something to do, this has not been an issue throughout my placement year.
The odd occassion has come up where I have been given something which I felt I was highly responsible for, but for the most part my jobs were generic.
Regardless of what I do in my day to day role, my placement year at Fujitsu has taught me many key life lessons which I'm sure will assist me in many aspects of life within the future.
The Company
There is always a good and 'fun' atmosphere within the office, espcially on a Friday (but definitely not on a Monday!)
From previous experiences with placement students, the role was setup with things for me to do. I think coming to the end of my placement, though, it has been understood that the role is potentially more suited to somebody who isn't looking to gain as much experience as possible from as many areas.
If I ask for training, I would usually get it. This placement scheme I thoroughly believes looks to invest as much as possible into you.
Flexi Time
Financial Bonus
Working from home
The graduate scheme sounds like it will be another great experience and from having completed the placement year, it sounds potentially easier to get further employment
The Culture
Considering I have lived much further away from the other placement students, I have spent a considerate amount of time with them and going 'out'.
I wouldn't recommend living here unless you know people! it's not very sociable, nor does it seem there are many people with similar interests to myself
Good luck finding nightlife
There are several gyms and activity clubs around the area, (if you're in to that), plus charity events
