The Role
Overall I had a brilliant time on placement considering the job, people and living arrangements
I felt like a real part of the team, I settled in instantly with everyone making me feel very welcome. I feel like they are my friends as well as my colleagues.
My manager was always willing to support me with my work and would also set me goals and tasks to do.
In my department the work load differs depending on the time of month, month end is a very busy time, but not so busy that you didn't have enough hours in the day to do your work. During mid month the department was a lot quieter, however there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in other areas of the business so I used this time to do that.
I was given several projects which I had to co ordinate and manage myself which I found very rewarding.
I have learnt how to use Vauxhall specific skills but also improved my personal skills such as communication, numerical and excel skills. All undergrads received excel training, presentation training, safer driving training and graduate application workshops.
The Company
Everyone is very friendly and easy to get on with. Some days were more fun than others as expected in an office job.
Very well organised. Before placement we got to attend an open day which included a series of introductions and also the opportunity to find ourselves housing for the year. We were given a housing guide of the local area to help us. At the start of the year there was a handover schedule which included things like getting work passes, director presentations, IT inductions. There was also a social schedule during the first two weeks in which activities were organised most nights. During the first two weeks we got to stay in halls which was a great way to get to know all the undergrads, even the people who commuted and lived at home stayed in halls for two weeks which was great because it meant they didn't miss out on any of the evening social events.

I would consider coming back to Vauxhall, however Vauxhall does not have a Graduate Scheme specifically, instead they call back previous placement students as and when they need new graduates in the company.
The Culture
Yes, there are around 80 of us in the Luton office meaning there is always something going on and everyone has their group of friends. I have also been for team lunches, evening meals and nights out with my department.
I pay around £340 a month for rent plus bills. This is a little bit more than most others on placement here purely because of the area my house is in. The average is probably around £300. Luton is a cheap night out.
There isn't much in Luton apart from one main club and several pubs but it is very easy to get to London via train and you can get to Harpenden, St Albans and Watford relatively easily.
