The Role
Vauxhall as a company is very good to work for and offers real working positions with genuine real time issues and problems to solve from day to day, this has made for an enjoyable year on placement
I was welcomed with open arms into my department and became familiar with them very quickly, they are like a second family, if slightly disfunctional at times, but there is always support and guidance on hand if I feel I need it.
The support and guidence from the start was good, with help along the way on projects they set out of me and people are happy to help if you ask them and explain situations as to what information and guidence you need.
Like any work place, there were busy days/weeks and quite days/weeks, but as a whole iv had a pretty good balance of work load and work type which is also important so you dont get bored doing the same thing all the time.
As my placement progressed I was invloved in more projects and held greater responsibilites, my job role came with set daily task responsibilites and if I were not here doing my job then they would need to employ someone else as the department would struggle to run without me and my work.
The skills developed, learned and trained will stay with me now for the rest of my working life, all experiences and training have been taken on board and working in a real world industrial environment for a year has furthered my professional, communication and various other life skills.
The Company
Very lively atmosphere, with lots of people passing through with good humerous, but work related converstaions. Easy environment to work in with people around to help
There were a few hiccups at the beginning of the placement due to handover and getting used to the new job role, but once settled in and into the swing of things, it has been well organised and very successful
The company believes strongly in having a well educated and aware workforce, so there have been many training days/packs and also online E-Learning. As a result I have developed as a person with increased knowledge and skills.

Due to not having a clear Graduate scheme set up, I am unsure what job role could be offered should I wish to come back/be invited back for an interview. Also, whilst I have enjoyed the position I have worked in, I feel like I would like to pursue a slightly different path in the motor industry first.
The Culture
Over 75 Undergraduates and alot of apprentices, so there were plenty of people to meet up with and socialise with.
For the house I lived in, I paid £285 a month including internet and tv license and then bills on top. But I shared the house with 5 other Vauxhall Undergraduates, so the bills (gas, water, electric) worked out about £250 each for the whole year, but we didnt scrimp on heating like normal students, as we were being paid a decent wage. But on a whole, its an affordable area to live with some cheap bars and pubs about, average night out if you include the price of drink, taxi and a kebab was about £30-£40
Luton nightlife isnt great, but being so close to London, Milton Keynes, Watford, St Albans and Harpenden, you are spoilt for choice with good transport links for a night out.
There are clubs and activity groups to get involved with if you ask about, but they are not publicised well.
