    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • As a whole work was really enjoyable. I had many opportunities to try new things and apply my knowledge.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Vauxhall is good at making undergraduates (placement students) feel involved and part of the company. They offer training and support throughout the year and they have a mentor system so you always have someone to talk to, should you need them.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My boss was regularly giving encouragement and leading by example. He took a lot of time out to make sure I was comfortable and happy with my role.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I rarely had a boring day as my job role had so much variety. When my workload started to get on top of me I spoke to my boss and we reduced it to a reasonable amount.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was definitely given responsibility and some of the things I did affected the company and/or the product. For example, I changed the manufacturing process of some of the parts on the Vauxhall Vivaro to reduce the number of warranty claims we were seeing.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt many different ways of solving problems, using both analytical methods and with a hands-on approach. We recieved valuable training such as excel, presentation and problem solving training.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very entertaining in my office! Jokes were always being made and us undergrads were encouraged to get involved. Work got completed at the same time too!

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well. It has all seemed very professional and I feel like any another employee, not an undergraduate.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I attended many training sessions throughout the year and my managers helped me in the areas of personal development that i wanted to improve in.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Healthcare/Dental

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am very tempted to apply for Vauxhall when I leave university.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • With 75 undergraduates in Luton, we regularly held days and nights out. There is always someone to get on with or go out with.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home and commuted to work so my living costs werent very high, however Luton is not an expensive place to go out either.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Luton has a few bars and a few clubs to go to. Watford, London and Milton Keynes are nearby and are all very good nights out!

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • This year I have got involved with the London to Brighton bike ride and a few department meals out. There have also been canoeing trips, skydiving activities and many more. If there is anything you particularly want to do for charity, if you speak to your boss you can arrange it for yourself and other employees.

    4/5
