The Role
Very valuable work experience, opportunities to explore all areas of the business and develop.
Felt welcomed and trusted by immediate team members, given much responsibilty. Contributions made were important to other colleagues. As a whole department was welcoming.
Had a couple of meetings with mentor throughout the year. Had one to one monthly feedback meetings with line manager. CAP reviews twice a year. Any time I needed support and guidance it was always available.
The majority of the time was the right workload for me. Always had immediate daily tasks to do and also longer term tasks to work on.
Trusted to handle lots of data and tasks. Helped all team members on a variety of work, therefore made a wide contribution.
Transferable skills such as planning, communication, presentation training, excel training are all invaluable. Specific departmental skills such as SAP and GPS use also useful. Had a wide experience of the industry, seeing how head office, suppliers, factories, retailers work.
The Company
Got on well with the majorty of people on the office. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Good to have many other undergraduates around, as everyone is in a similar position.
The induction weeks were well organised, with director presentations, a large social schedule and site tours. Also had support where needed for example with housing. Well established placement scheme.
Excel, presentation and pruchasing training sessions. Safe driver workshop. Role specific learning available on GM e-learning. Opportunity to spend time in different departments and visit any part of the business (plant, retailers).

Not many graduate positions, but if you had performed well during the year you may be asked back for an interview.
The Culture
80+ undergraduates and apprenctices, therefore there is always something to do.
Very good for the South, rent was £250 a month, Luton a cheap place to eat/drink.
Luton itself was ok - Thursday nights cheap and fun. Most of the time travelled to other places such as London, Harpenden, St Albans, other people's homes/unis. Transport links good to go out in other places.
Sports, charity events.
