The Role
I have mostly enjoyed this placement year as it has given me an insight into life as a working professional.
At Vauxhall, you are generally treated as another member of the team. Throughout this year, I have been given a lot important responsibilities.
I have had weekly meetings with my line manager and also have the option of speaking to my personal mentor if any issues arise.
Enough work so that I was always doing work but not so much so that I was constantly under pressure,
Some of the responsibilities were of very high importance, so much so that they were audited on a yearly basis by an external company.
Picked up many skills such as project management, problem solving, working under pressure.
The Company
Very friendly and relaxed environment.
The assistance with housing at the start of the year was very beneficial.
We were provided with safer driving training, excel training and were also given online training.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
There are a few old IT undergrads who have come back to work at Vauxhall as graduates.
The Culture
There are around 100 Vauxhall placement students every year.
Cost of living in Luton is fairly cheap. Rent is around £300pcm which is cheap compared to most university halls.
Galaxy Centre in Luton is decent, avoid Liquid!
Mountain climbing in the lake district, London to Brighton cycle.
