The Role
It was well organised, everyone was friendly and helpful, and the work given was constructive and often added value to the team.
The desks were very inclusive and willing to help and talk to me about any questions I had. The working environment was encouraging and challenging, but friendly.
Managers of all levels have found time to talk to the interns generally in lectures, and also individually. Desk managers have been very involved in the integration process, and were supportive.
Generally always had work to do, either an ongoing project, or a quick task to finish. When there wasn't anything set to do, then there were always people to go and talk to about their roles, or research to read about. In between this, there was always the trading game to keep an eye on.
A nice amount of resposibility - enough to feel like I was given a chance to do a proper job, but not more than was appropriate.
There are projects here that will link in to my next year at univerisity directly. Furthermore, the skills in Excel will be useful wherever. And finally, the networks built and knowledge passed on should be extremely useful if I do get an offer of a graduate place in finance.
The Company
Very focused on work, as it is fast-paced and needs to be very accurate. But there is an easy atmosphere of banter amongst co-workers, and most certainly a supportive feeling amongst all ranks and areas.
It was all organised and set out in a timetable in the first week. Throughout the eight weeks, changes could be seen on the intern intranet, and documents that were relevant were uploaded for all to see. Events were done very well, and I feel we were looked after well.
There were many lectures with senior staff on markets, business areas, and career development. Were we given a site for learning financial modules online. At the starts of the internship was an external Excel session aimed at different levels so that everyone was taught something.
Company Parties/Events
With a very hard-working and focused environment, there are chances to excel and be challenged, but at the same time, there is a definitely supportive and pleasant atmosphere from your colleagues.
The Culture
There were organised events for all interns, events for certain business areas, and lots of opportunities for us to meet up after work or on weekends.
It is expensive, but there are cheaper options for living available to students at halls or other student accommodation.
Bars all around, nice restaurants for dinner.
Yes, there are sports clubs within the bank, and there were certainly chances to meet up with other interns to do activities.
