The Role
Often interesting and treated like an engineer most of the time but at times used as cheap labour given grunt work etc perhaps as to be expected on a placement.
The team were usually pretty supportive and helpful.
HR where completely disconnected from the realities of the job very quick to raise issue if even so much as a minute late for work whilst ignoring the frequent unpaid overtime.
Huge amounts of work to do as the department was very understaffed.
Lots of independence and responsibility given
Good introduction into the world of engineering but not at all helpful in degree terms.
The Company
Occasional jokes and laughs but mostly just work.
Very much a learn as you go placement, often expected to be able to do things without really being taught or shown anything.
Some training given but it would of been nice to have been taught more rather than having to ask every time you came across something unknown or new often feeling some what of an inconvenience due to the huge work load everyone was under.
Would work for them in the future if a job in the right department came up.
The Culture
No social scene at all in Daventry, most people seemed to go home at weekends
Quite an expensive place to live, but not as bad as somewhere like London. Housing is pretty decent though can't get accommodation for more than 3 people in one house due to rental rules. Tesco in town is very expensive better to go to rugby even though that means more fuel.
One club which you'd have to be desperate to go into, a few ok pubs.
There was regular football sessions for anyone to have a kick about after work but apart from that nothing.
