About You
I really enjoyed the work I was given and the people I met and worked with.
All members of staff at the firm worked very hard to make my experience as useful as possible.
I was always able to ask Graduate Recruitment any questions and the system of giving vac schemers a trainee "buddy" for each seat gave me a chance to ask question I might not have wanted to ask more senior members of staff.
I learned some useful skills about researching and presenting legal reports which will be useful in my GDL studies.
The Company
It was structured so as to give vac schemers as much insight into the firm as possible in two weeks. We had presentations from every group within the firm and various networking events. Working in a different department every week also helped in this respect. I was able to work for one day in a department I had not been allocated upon request.
I was given interesting work and there were a variety of social events that were all pretty fun. The group of vac schemers all got on very well which helped.
They put on a variety of events such as negotiation workshops. We were given a partner mentor for the scheme who was able to give useful advice.
The firm tried hard to recreate the trainee experience throughout by having vac schemers share offices with partners and senior associates and giving us meaningful work to do.
I was able to meet a large number of people from all of the levels of seniority and so was able to see how people within the firm interact and what they are like.
Everything Else
£700 for the two weeks.
There was a partner welcome drinks on the second night. We were encouraged to work with as many people within our departments as we could.
Drinks evenings offered an opportunity to meet a lot of different people which was interesting. Events like an exclusively vac schemers dinner at Jamie's Italian and a cooking class were also fun.
I played a game of rugby for the firm and heard about other sporting opportunities. Pro Bono opportunities were also outlined.
It was a very enjoyable two weeks and there is a good chance of a training contract at the end of it.
