The Role
The role was really varied and helped me develop a lot of skills.
My team are very close and I was always helped and supported when I needed it. Everyone at the company is very approachable, no matter their level.
I could always ask if I needed help and would get reassurance/ praise for my work.
The first half of the placement was the perfect balance but there were a few months where I was very busy and it did make me feel stressed. I would prefer it this way round to being bored, though.
I was given the opportunity to present to Directors on a regular basis and attend important meetings. I provided reports for the use of high level employees and was given the opportunity to work on a project completely on my own.
I am so much more confident within a professional, business environment. Doing a placement year at a company with such an established programme and so many opportunities is the best decision I've made for my career so far.
The Company
Hard working but relaxed and chatty.
Very well set up with extras like a mentor, reviews, presentations at certain milestones, the opportunity to shadow/ go out into the field, etc. My role was new this year but was still very well structured and managed.
We had training in Excel, presentations, safer driving, environmental driving.

Although there aren't a large amount of grad roles, if you are lucky enough to be asked to come back you will be given a lot of responsibility in a great role at a well respected company.
The Culture
The social scene was just as good as university with there being so many of us. I went on numerous trips and holidays with the people on placement and am so close to one of them that we are going travelling together! Being able to live together for the year is a definite bonus for social reasons.
Luton is cheap. Harpenden and St Albans are lovely towns nearby which are slightly more pricey but with lots of choice and places to go.
In Luton there is next to no night life but you are very close to London, St Albans and Harpenden which all have ample nightlife.
There were theatre trips and sports events if you decided to get involved.
