The Role
This placement year has been an enjoyable one for the most part, there are obviously ups and downs to every job but I have enjoyed my time at Vauxhall.
My colleagues trust me, therefore making me feel valued. If they have a short deadline or too much work on they will ask to complete or assist.
There are three reviews throughout the year where the focus is on both your placement role, but also developing your skills to make you more employable in the future.
There are peaks and troughs, but after the first month or two there is enough ad hoc work to keep you busy throughout the month
The job roles given to you at Vauxhall are real job roles, not like the majority of placements where you can be waiting for work, or doing pointless and non value adding tasks. You are given the reins and do get exposure for the work you put in.
I could not imagine going into Graduate employment without completing a placement year. Not only has it developed my skills, it has also given me an insight into the working world.
The Company
There is only so much fun you can have in an office environment, but where I worked in particular there is a good atmosphere. People will speak to one another, and at other times it can be quiet, which is perfect if you need to get some work done. I work alongside another undergrad, an apprentice and a graduate, so there is a good group of us the same age, making work more interesting.
The placement scheme at Vauxhall has been running for many years, therefore meaning that all the bumps have been ironed out. The placement is very easy to get into, and any questions can be answered almost instantly.
There is a lot of training at the start of your placement, including Excel training and presentation training.

Unfortunately Vauxhall do not take on many Graduates, but they only take on Graduates that have been Undergraduates. If you shine, and there is a job opening then you will be asked back.
The Culture
Having so many undergrads around you means there is always a good social scene.
I know this is a mixed bag, but the house I am renting is very cheap compared to the house I rented for Uni, and is a lot nicer.
There is always something to do of an evening, espically as there are lots of Undergrads. The nightlife in Luton itself is poor, with only a Yates and a Liquid, but you make do.
Witht the gym and many charity events run by Vauxhall there are lots of opportunities.
