The Role
I have enjoyed my placement at Vauxhall since the first day. One of the biggest reasons would be, the fact that Vauxhall employes aprox. 100 students across all its sites, yearly.
I felt extremely valued by all the people that I interracted with. Due to the nature of the job, I was almost always in contact with people, either face-to-face in the head office, on the phone or even on the 'field'.
Not only, were we entitled to a 5 weeks handover of the job, by the previous undergraduate, but we also had the opportunity to under training for various applications that our jobs would require, presentation skills, excel skills, interview skills etc.
I am a person who enjoys high workload, and I felt that this year I was provided with the right amount of work to keep me busy all days.
I was responsible for various reports, for two different departments. I was also given the responsibility, in conjuction with my manager for the development of an application which had been introduced in different countries across Europe.
I had the chance to have interview training and also to participate to the assessment centres for the new intake of students, as a interviewer. I strongly believe, that this training and experience have impacted how I will perform in my future job interviews. Customer Law training was also provided as a job-specific skill requirements, which will definitely assist me going forward.
The Company
Having people the same age, across all departments makes the transition from an academic environment to the work one very easy, but it also means that 'fun never stopped'.
The whole placement was very well thought. I had 5 weeks of handover, spent with my previous undergraduate. During this period she tried to explain as much as she could about the job, but she also left me a booklet with company hierarchies, concepts, acronyms, reports, even how to set my voicemail. Moreover, each student is assigned a mentor, with whom you have regular meetings to discuss work, personal life, anything basically.
Apart from the formal training that we were provided (presentation skills, safe driving, consumer law, excel training etc.), Vauxhall aslo has an online library of classroom and web-based courses that you can enroll yourself into.

Unfortunately, the company does not have an extensive graduate scheme across the business, however there are definitely opportunities for those who are looking.
The Culture
Nights out with the other students on a regular basis, Christmas party, Department Meal, Bowling evenings with colleagues.
Reasonable rent prices, considering that it's so close to London. (£250+ per month) Cheap nightlife
A couple of acceptable clubs in Luton, however the place it's only half an hour on the train from London.
All the undergraduates enroll on the STEM Ambassador program, whcih meant that we could visit local schools during the year, work with children, explain them about our jobs and what they can expect. Lots of volunteering opportunities, all the employees are entitled to a CSR day and do charity work.
