About You
I was placed in the Real Estate department in Birmingham and really enjoyed my placement. The team were friendly and welcoming and I was able to relax and be myself, which was great.
I was given real work to do which was then sent out to clients. This made me feel as if my contribution was valued.
On my first day, the team leader I was placed with took the time to talk me through what the department does day to day and the types of work it deals with. This allowed me an insight into Real Estate in practice and provided a good foundation to progress on throughout the week. Throughout the week, I continued to get guidance and support on the work I was producing. People took the time to explain the work they required, with the relevant background information and then again once the work was completed.
I now know that I am interested in experiencing Real Estate as a seat when I am a trainee, which I would not have done before this experience. I also know that when I am relaxed and around a great team of people, I am able to produce the best work I can.
The Company
We had a series of tasks to complete and a presentation at the end of the week to create and present. I did feel at times that these tasks took over the insight and I was not able to take on any new Real Estate tasks and be as helpful as I could be, as I needed to get the set tasks done and submitted.
Really enjoyable, great bunch of people.
Shoosmiths gave me set tasks and presentation work to do to ensure that I was never bored. Additionally, the Real Estate team have a 'pack' of tasks based on real life situations which could be completed should I have nothing else to do (which did not happen!). I felt that Shoosmiths were trying to us an interesting and informative placement.
I currently work with the Company, however it has opened my eyes to different departments which I would like to explore.
I already had an insight into the culture in one office, but this was an excellent way of experiencing it in another, newer office. Shoosmiths overall has a great culture and employees great peoeple.
Everything Else
I already work here and did not have to take holiday to participate in the placement scheme. My expenses were reimbursed, which was unexpected and shows that you are valued.
People were all willing to talk to you and ask questions. I tried to talk to as many people in different departments as possible. Everyone was friendly and willing.
I organied lunch with the other placement students and then again with some trainees and NQs.
We discussed the Social Committee and the Legal Walk. I am sure that I could have found out more if I had asked more questions!
Really enjoyable, stuctured placement. Absolutely.
