The Role
The two six month placements I have been in have both been great! Varied responsibility and the chance to really get stuck into some key HR areas.
Both teams have really appreciated the work that I have done and you are really counted on as a true employee rather than a 'work experience to do the filing and make the drinks'.
The HR team that manage the Industrial Placement students have always offered their support from the beginning. In terms of the manager you have, I think support is varied, however I have always felt supported by the team and manager. In my second placement I have had fortnightly one to one's which are really beneficial and if I do need to query anything my manager always explains thoroughly. I think there is a certain amount that they just let you get on and do, but I think that is what you need to learn things yourself.
Work load has varied however there has never been a day where I have sat with nothing to do!
The level of responsibility that I was given from day 1 exceeded my expectations!
The skills and training I have recieved on the job will be most beneficial in future jobs and the projects I have worked on has helped me decide on a dissertation topic.
The Company
The environment in the office is very friendly and relaxed.
I have been very impressed with the organisation of the placement, from our induction week to the allocation of projects throughout the year.
Quarterly training days were held with an external company that helped develop key skills such as communication, presentation, and time management. Working in HR, I was also exposed to employment law update sessions.
Flexi Time
Company Car
Subsidised/Company Gym
Above 25 days holiday
My contract has been extended through summer, and there is also the possibility of securing a graduate job with them.
The Culture
There are quite a few IP's, graduates, apprentices and french interns throughout the company that gives you the opportunity to socialise out of work quite a lot.
Cost of living is relatively cheap in Coventry.
There are not a large amount of bars and clubs to go to in the evening in Coventry. Birmingham and Leamington Spa are not too far away if you do fancy a better night out!
There is a netball and football team that employees can get involved with.
