The Role
Barclays is a fantastic company to work for and would recommend to any graduate. The scheme is well organised and support fantastic. Very easy to socialise between interns.
Hardly ever felt like I was 'just the intern' felt like an important member of a relatively small team and did work that is valued by the business and provide the team with future direction.
My line manager was fantastic and sat down with me almost daily initially to teach me about the products and processes and could easily approach him with any questions. Could easily approach anyone else on the team (or even not on the team) to help and almost everyone is glad to give you 30 mins to talk through their role.
Almost always had something to do, but occasionally frustrated due to IT problems (systems down = no data) but could easily have found more work to do if I asked.
Given complete control over my project, and the direction to take it. Told to present to senior mgmt gave me great exposure.
Learnt a LOT about the credit card industry and equally large amount about Excel. I thought my skills were good before starting, but I was wrong as I had a lot to learn!
The Company
Sometime quiet, and although its not the nicest looking office in the world (not the main Barclays HQ but right nearby) the casual, laid back atmosphere is great and everyone is very friendly.
Very good - everything was conveyed to us very quickly - slight delay in organising the next steps after the internship - i.e how to apply to grad scheme but this was due to the next steps changing so understandable but everything was conveyed in good time.
In terms of company development, there was not much except a few training courses online. Manager support was where I learnt the most.

Grad scheme looks fantastic - would love to work here for a long time.
The Culture
Went out for drinks with interns almost weekly, and had other outside of work social events. Intern events were also fantastic and fun! One of the best parts of the scheme!
Its Canary Wharf, London so expect it to be expensive. Thankfully I live nearby so worked out fantastic.
You have central london on your doorstep - enough said!
A few volunteering activities but being there for such a short time - didn't really have many opportunities.
