The Role
I had a great time doing this internship. I had never done an internship before and it was my first time working so I wasn't sure what to expect but it turned out I had a really good time and learned a lot.
I definitely felt part of the team. The team valued my contributions and I never felt like I was an outsider, so to speak. The team had an intern last year as well so were used to having someone like me in their team.
A lot of assistance is given if you need it. I didn't need to much, but when I wanted a bit of help, my manager was always there to help me. My assigned buddy was always there to ask questions of and he helped me settle into the role.
I was not too busy or too bored, somewhere in the middle. I did feel I could have done some things faster than others looking back on it now though.
The team wanted me to take some responsibility near the start so I get a feel for it. This was pretty good, if not a bit daunting but it was a real eye-opener and I enjoyed it.
I definitely improved my communication skills and learned new skills which I will no doubt put to use later on in life. This is the area I want to work in so I feel the skills learned in the internship will be very valuable.
The Company
It wasn't too serious but depending on whether there are deadlines coming up, the team can seem a bit frantic. This was good to witness. On the whole the atmosphere was pretty good.
I thought it was set up really well. We knew who to contact if we had any problems. Communications to the interns about events such as networking activities were frequent -- good to know that they hadn't forgotten about us!
Training was provided so if you don't know how to do something, you can be sure that your manager will point you in the right direction. I found this worked really well and you can complete the training in your own time.
Company Parties/Events
I got offered a graduate job! Really looking forward to coming back.
The Culture
I thought the social scene was pretty good. The interns met up after work quite a few times to go out/have a drink etc. and this was fun. It was good to get to know the other interns this way.
London is very expensive. I wasn't really used to this, but it became better as the internship went on and I got the hang of managing my budget.
London nightlife was great! I went out with interns a few times and it was a great experience, even though it was sometimes a tad pricy.
Events were organised for after work and these were great opportunities to get to know others. Good fun and nice to have a break from the office too.
