The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my time working for National Grid this summer. Every day flew by and I really enjoyed the placement.
A small office helped in getting to know everyone and integrating with other staff. We had very good feedback from everyone.
We were very able to get help and support on any issue that was troubling us as our manager was very willing to ensure that we enjoyed our placement.
I had ongoing tasks to do for the majority of the placement, although I sometimes found myself doing extra tasks that were not asked so that I could fill some time! Although a lot of this came in useful!
Our manager, although happy to assist, was very eager to let us make our own decisions and judgements when it came to the policy!
The project has given me a greater insight into the power industry which is useful as I have a power class at university next year! I also spent a lot of time doing team work and a few presentations which I know I will use at university a lot next year.
The Company
I really enjoyed the office that I worked in, the atmosphere was really good!
The project itself was organised quite well but we had issues with our comkpany laptops at times and getting the correct software installed on our laptops.
I was not really given a great deal of training in the placement, but the company do look at your personal development and try to encourage this.
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
I think I have impressed enough that I may have a job i the future... hopefully!!
The Culture
As many of us had to travel down from Scotland we lived close to each other and so we could go out at weekends and socialise which was really good!
It was not too expensive in certain places to go out for a drink with other students and our rent was relatively cheap!
There were quite a lot of bars and clubs in the area so that we had a wide variety to choose from!
We could get involved in activities in the local area but not reallt at work.
