The Role
The role was rewarding as you could see what you were contributing, however at times there was a lack of work.
Overall, colleagues seemed to value the work that was being done and what you contributed to the team.
There was a scheme whereby you had a manager who would ensure that you were ok within the job and a supervisor as well. Generally I found that the supervisor was good for finding out more about the company and a manager for the job role.
There were times where there was a lack of work, this is due to what the company were going through at the time.
During the year I completed several projects that directly affected the department. These projects were important and I was solely responsible for making sure they were complete.
Overall the skills I learnt were not something that was directly related to my degree, however they certainly will help throughout my career.
The Company
Over time the atmosphere changed, due to what the company was going through. Overall, there were good and not so good points.
Considering the change the company was going through whilst I was there, the overall organisation of the placement was good with opportunities to learn about other people/departments.
Overall, training was fairly minimal. We received training for the job at the beginning of the year but very little after that.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Working from home
Healthcare/Dental
Travel loan
In the current climate, I do no believe there will be any opportunities within the company.
The Culture
Generally other students/colleagues were friendly and there were occasions where we did things together.
This is not really applicable for me as I lived with my parents throughout the year.
Nightlife in Slough was not great. However as most students stayed in Reading area this did not matter so much. Reading was good for nightlife
There were a few different opportunities to do different things outside of work.
