    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I was given a real job with real responsibilty. There was always another challenge just around the corner with new skills to be learnt and experiences to be gained.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleauges became friends, it was difficult to leave them when going back to uni.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given fortnightly Personal Development sessions and lots of on the job coaching as situations arose.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Maybe sometimes I was a little too busy but I got out of my placement what I put in. I learnt a lot more by being a little bit too busy than I would have making the tea and staring at a blank computer screen.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As much as I wanted and more. I was sending out reports to senior management from my first month and finished my placement by managing a small project.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I predict the skills I learnt will help me a lot when I go back to uni and they'lll definitely help me to get a job in the future.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Whilst my team always had a lot of work, we also had a lot of fun, including BBQs, team building events, a Christmas party and pub trips.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Some things could have been better organised, for example better communication around start dates and contract but on the whole it was well organised. It was structured exactly as it was described on the website, I had a great job role with a lot of support and I always knew what was expected of me.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My manager saw everything as a development opportuity. I was given tasks that would develop my skill set, rather than just menial admin tasks and I was coached through various situations, from stakeholder management to data analysis.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The company cannot guarantee me a job when I graduate. However, there are opportunities to apply for internal vacancies and ask previous managers if there are jobs available.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • A lot of the Xerox students live together so they get to know each other well. Along with pub/clubbing trips the students often have lunch together and there is an annual student boat party.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It's bsed in Greater London so your viewpoint really depends on where you are re-locating from. As a guide, rent is approximately £400 a month per person (not including bills).

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Uxbridge has a lot of pubs but a lot of people prefer to travel further afield for a night out.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There's definitely more opportunities than I had time for. Within the company there is a student charity team which run lots of events. E.g. Sports day, 5 a side Football, quizzes. There is also a student 5 a Side football team and lots of other socials. Uxbridge is a big town with a university and a shopping centre. There's also excellent public transport links to Cental London and other nearby towns. This means you can find pretty much any activity to suit your interests.
