The Role
The placement has been really enjoybale, the support, people and environment allowed focus to ensure I gained a high amount of experience this year.
I felt valued by my team and colleagues through the amount of resposibility I had. The team relied on me for all of my roles and through regular feedback I felt the acknowledgement of hard work.
The guidence by my managers has been 100% throughout the year. Continually offering feedback and advice whilst also giving me the freedom to manage my own work-load, the way in which Cummins go about this is perfect for how I work.
The work-load has both busy and quieter periods throughout the year. The role is great as it offers a diverse selection of roles and responsibilities that continually keep you working and gaining experience throughout the year.
I had the ownership of various processes in the department, this gave me the opportunity to make changes as a fresh pair of eyes in the team. The amount of responsibility at first, i was not expecting, but looking back over the year my development has been greatly aided by this.
The year has helped me develop a range of skills, some of which you do not expect. Cummins offer a student development programme to help develop cetain skills. Meeting etiquette and assertiveness are just two of the courses on offer in the programme which will be greatly beneficial in my future career. Going back to university, I can take with me a wealth of knowledge from the Finance team and Cummins which will help my understanding and hopefully improve my grades.
The Company
The atmosphere is great, everyone is more than happy to help even during the busier periods.
I arrived into a well structured hand-over period from the previous placement student as well as regular 1:1's with my manager.
Cummins Invested alot of time and effort in my development. This was through the Student Development Programme and also many other training opportunites. Cummins actively helped my development and continually requested updates and presentations on how I progressed personally as well as how the students progressed as a group.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
The opportunities in Cummins are great, I am looking into the Financial Development Programme as a Graduate Role.
The Culture
The social side of Cummins has been great, everyone at cummins (Students, Grads and employees) enjoys regular nights out as well as trips abroad or around the country.
Drink, food and living is relatively cheap especially when comparing to friends on placement in other parts of the country.
The nightlife is good but when you are out with the right people it's great, we have had regualr nights out and they have all been enjoyable.
Organised through work and also within the student group there are alot of activities outside of work.
