The Role
The placement was enjoyable, and everyone was friendly and very welcoming. There was always something of interest going on.
Everyone was friendly and once settled in, it felt like I was a part of the team, and involved in lots of areas of the project that I was working on.
My manager was always there to ask any questions to do and was helpful, and the team lead of the project I was on was very approachable and always pointed me in the right direction should I be having any issues.
On a daily basis, I was doing the same as all the others in my team, nothing different just because I was intern. There was a good level of work, some days slightly slower, some with slightly more to do.
During the placement, I was given the same responsibilities as others in the team I was working in, and at times was required to cover others when they went on vacation, making sure all aspects were covered.
There has been a limited amount I have learnt that I will use in my degree, but once graduated, a fair bit of what I have learnt and developed over the year will become of use.
The Company
There was always something going on in the office, and at times there was time to socialise with other interns, and within our team there was always laughs on a daily basis even though everyone was working hard.
On our first day, it was very well organised, and we were set up to ensure we knew what we were doing. During the placement, we had meetings with a mentor assigned to us, and there was always a process for getting anything sorted that we may need which was done quickly and efficiently.
There were various trainings available to us over the year, all of which were useful if we wished to take part in them.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Due to the nature of the year BlackBerry has had, any future prospects are unsure, but should the opportunity arise I would definitely consider it.
The Culture
There was, but there was definitely cliques.
I lived at home for the duration of the placement, 25 miles away, therefore did not spend an awful lot of time in the area I worked in.
In Slough there was no form of nightlife, but nearby there was Windsor and Reading, both of which were a lot better nightlife.
Not an awful lot.
