    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really wanted to enjoy this internship but with the amount of work I had to do, it difficult to find the time to relax. It was okay near the beginning but unfortunately as the internship progressed, the work piled up and I struggled to keep up.

    2/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues treated me fairly and I found that they were they were happy to help. I did feel a bit apprehensive when approaching them for help though since they were all so busy.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I got fairly good feedback from my manager as to how to improve and I found this helpful. I found the buddy I was assigned more of a help though as he has been in this situation before. My buddy gave me a lot of useful advice.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There was always something for me to do and as the internship progressed I felt that the work was piling up and I was struggling to keep on top of it. It seems other interns were having the same problem as well. I would have liked the work to be more balanced.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Not that much responsibility was given to me, to be honest. I felt that my colleagues valued my contributions, but all of the big decisions were made by the big managers. This was understandable but I would have liked to be given a bit more responsibility so that I got a feel for it.

    2/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • While tough, the internship definitely taught me a lot of things. In particular, I felt that my time management skills have improved greatly as well as my communication skills. I will definitely use these skills in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I found the atmosphere in the office to be fairly serious. Everyone was working away and the rate of work was an eye-opener to me. The atmosphere made me work harder myself, but it would have been better if it was a bit more relaxed.

    2/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was set up really well. We all knew what was happening and the induction programme at the start was great to allow us to learn about the bank. Communications were frequent and we knew who to contact if we had questions.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A lot of training was provided to ensure that we had the skills for the job. I was left to do this training in my own time and seeked feedback from my manager when necessary. This allowed me to improve myself, although finding the time to have regular meetings was hard at times.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The feedback from my manager was great and the hard work paid off. I got offered a graduate job after the internship!

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a great social scene among the interns. We went out often and it was great to relax a bit after all the hard work.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost was pretty expensive but this expected as it was located in Central London. I was used to this, but other interns may have found it hard at first.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Great! The nightclubs were amazing and it was a lot of fun. A lot of variety meaning everyone can find something that suits them.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were some opportunities for networking, but these were mainly during work hours. Outside of work, there were also a few opportunities but these were mainly the events that the interns organised together.
