    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Work placement was very good and insightful. The felxibility of the scheme was one of the main reasons that I was attracted to AW. You can move around after 3 months to new departments. However I reccomend that anyone does a 6 month duration to get the best projects.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Valued grealty especially in my first placement, felt like a team member rather than a student.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Enough support was given when required, however the placements were relatively hands-off allowing you to develop your skills

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was involved in aircraft production and testing and thus I was at the end of the produciton line. Due to this I had quite a varied schedule from being very busy to being a bit idle. From what I have heard engineering is quitea balanced workload.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was quickly placed onto aircraft programs and I was quickly pushed to taking on joint and then sole responsibilty for several aircraft and programs. Generally it seems like students are given real work and responsibilty if you do well.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Well developed skills, lots of on the job training. The vareity of work has really helped me to develeop and also looks great on a CV.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It really depends on your office, some are quite dull but others are good. There are company funded assocaitions for students, apprentices and graduates. All organise social events.

    2/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Quite well setup with defined placements, everyone in the firm is used to students and thus they can accomodate you. However as with any large company the red tape and paperwork tends to massivley slow down the process.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company organise a single course for undergrad trainees on presenting techniques, however all other training is up to the student to undertake or push for. If you ask the right people or push for training you can get onto additional courses. This is defiantely a rarity though.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Above 25 days holiday

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • 3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Relatively good social scene as a number of us were from the same uni, however it was hard to organise events involving the other undergrads on the scheme. Socialised more with my housemates who were also on the scheme than anyone else.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Housing in the west country is very cheap, we looked at a bed farm house with a pool for around £80 a week each. We settled on a 5 bed farm house for 4 of us costing £72 a week each, bills extra.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife is almost non-existant in Yeovil, there is one club and a few bars. There are loads of pubs for a nice pint. Bristol and the south coast aren't that far away (1hr or so) so can be done for good socials.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are some occasional events that go on outisde of work, but there isn't too many about.

    2/5
