The Role
I think it has been a brilliant year's placement and has been really interesting to apply the academic knowledge gained from uni in an industrial environment. I really appreciated the chance to move around various departments in the company to see what I enjoyed the most.
Most of my colleagues have been extremely friendly and accommodating and I found it very easy to settle in in each of the departments that I have worked in.
I have been given projects of real importance that are expected to make a big difference to many customers.
I have learnt many skills (both work and life related) and have gained invaluable insight and experience of industy.
The Company
There was some general training provided but it would have been useful to be able to attend one other (software specific) training course regarding a technical CAD software package during my initial placement.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
I fully intend to apply to back to the company for the Graduate Scheme!
The Culture
I got on really well with all of the other Undergrads, Grads and also many people who have finished the Grad Scheme and are now permenant employees.
I have lived with 3 of the other undergrads this year and we have been able to rent a very nice house for less than I have been paying for rent at uni!
There is some nightlife in Yeovil but not to the same extent as a university town. There are many many good pubs and a few bars but only one club to speak of in Yeovil itself. That said it's not far to Bath/Bristol or Southampton...
I have been a member of two associations with the company apprentices and the graduates. Between the two associations there is normally something going on each week, be it a BBQ or karting or just chilling out in a pub.
