The Role
Working at National Instruments was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
You feel respected by everyone and treated equally.
You have monthly one to one meetings with your Team leader, helping you develop and set goals. Everyone is encouraged to ask questions where necessary, meaning you learn new skills very fast.
There is a good amount of work set. As well as the daily tasks, there is the opportunity to be creative and create example code and projects.
I was given the opportunity to co teach a Industrial course at a Scottish University where I taught 20 PhD students, Lecturers and customers from industry. This involved presenting, answering questions, creating discussion points and showing demonstrations. Every intern is given the opportunity to present a number of training sessions to all your colleagues. There are also AE projects (4 months) and a week long intern project you get allocated time for.
Over the course of the year, I have been given many opportunities - way beyond my expectations for the year. Your confidence, time management skills and technical ability will vastly increase.
The Company
There is always help and assistance when you need it.
As a company, both the Internship Supervisor and NI overall are very organised, and made the year the best part of my degree! The opportunities you will be given at NI are second to none.
Initially spending around 7 weeks training and attending continuous training sessions, NI invests a great deal in its Interns.
Subsidised/Company Gym
NI are rated one of the best places to work in the UK for their size category, and working here you can understand why...!
The Culture
There are a large number of interns who all live and/or socialise together.
Newbury isn't the cheapest place for students. Note there are a couple of Wether Spoons!
There is a club. There are lots of pubs.
BBQs, Summer Events, Boat races, Pubs!
