The Role
I enjoyed it to an extent. It was certainly more enjoyable than I was expecting it to be. The internship definitely started a bit slower than I wanted it to but the pace picked up and I enjoyed it overall.
My colleagues were really helpful. A couple of my team mates were interns previously so they had been in my shoes before and gave me the direction that I needed to succeed.
My manager was extremely helpful. There wasn't a stupid question when it came to him helping me, he took the time and the effort to guide me through even the basics if I found that I didn't know how to do it. He also gave me guidance weekly in meetings to check up on my progress.
Not as busy as I would have hoped. It gradually increased as the internship progressed though. At the start of the internship I was given some quite straight forward tasks to get me used to the work that I would be doing in the coming weeks but I found myself not doing much during the first week.
I wasn't given that much responsibility to start with and this was understandable as I was just an intern but what happened next kind of surprised me as I was given work that full time employees would do. I felt like a real important part of the company.
So many of the skills that I developed will be useful in the future from the soft skills like time management and how to communicate effectively in a team to the technical skills that I learned on the job. They've definitely prepared me for a future at the company and gave me the skills necessary to complete my degree to the best of my ability.
The Company
I didn't really think much of the atmosphere so I'm kind of impartial. I didn't really see anything that made me think wow, this is a great office to work in and at the same time there wasn't anything that really put me off coming into work every day.
The internship was very well set up. The constant stream of information about the internship was very useful as it helped me prepare adequately for the weeks to come. I was sent emails by my manager before the internship started to talk me through some of the things I would be doing once the internship started. All in all, very well organised indeed.
They gave me the training that I needed to do well in the internship but unfortunately, there wasn't really anything beyond this. The training was of very good quality though and when I completed it I felt confident coming into work and doing the tasks that I had been assigned.

After the internship was completed, they offered me a graduate role.
The Culture
The other students also doing the placement were quite friendly and I found myself frequently going out with them to get lunch or to have a drink after work. I made quite a few good friends here. I still keep in contact with all of the friends that I made here!
I live in London so I didn't really think anything of the cost. Sure, London is certainly expensive but there's nothing really that screamed out as being crazily priced. I got along just fine.
I went out quite a lot when I was on the internship because there are just so many places to go at night. I was quite overwhelmed by the options. There were of course a couple of clubs that I went to that I didn't like but that's always going to happen I suppose when there's that many.
Yes, many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. More than I could count, it seemed like they just kept on coming. I had so much fun spending time with the other interns and just getting to know them a bit better. I was also invited to some events organised by some of the other interns too which was also a great way to socialise.
