The Role
Microsoft definitely encourages Interns to get involved in as many projects as possible, especially out of their day job. There is always so many fun things to get involved in, for example Intern 101 Projects and helping out a technology launches.
The massive amount of responsibility you get given as an Intern at Microsoft is unreal. I have been given many chance to start up and run my own projects. The most overwhelming part is that by the end of it, I will be the only one who knows everything about that subject and therefore am accountable for everything around it.
A few key things that I have learnt so far, are how to effectively manage my time and prioritise tasks to get the most out of my day. I have learnt how to think logically and to use my own initiative around solving problems. My interpersonal and communication skills have increased massively...the list is literally endless! Hopefully I now have a whole bunch of skills that I can take back with me to make the most out of my third and final year.
The Company
The Finance calendar is very cyclical - times during month-end, budget and forecast are usually quite tense, but otherwise the atmosphere is good.
Very well organised by the HR University Staffing Team.
There is loads of opportunity to get involve with the team and other stretch projects to develop personal skills.

Working from home
This Internship has definitely confirmed that I want to work in Finance and I would love to come back to Microsoft but unfortunately there is no graduate roles in Finance. From speaking to my previous manager, I understand that I would have to complete my professional Accounting Qualification (ACA) to further pursue a career in Finance at Microsoft, which I am keen and willing to do.
The Culture
There were 70 Interns in the Reading office - most of us live on the same road which was great for social reasons.
We definitely got paid enough for the cost of living in Reading - the free TVP bus to work definitely helped!
