The Role
I enjoyed my time with Deloitte very much, although brief being only 7-weeks in duration, it was brilliant for not only gaining a more in depth knowledge of the work involved in a potential career path for me but also to find out a little more about where your strengths and weaknesses lie.
Being a rotation scheme it was a little 'whistle stop' in terms of seeing departments and meeting/working with colleagues but what I did find was all the people I worked were friendly, helpful and would try to provide as much interesting work as possible, bearing in mind your only there for a little while and in relative terms you don't know a lot.
The recruitment team at Deloitte were brilliant, emails replied to quickly, calls returned promptly. There always seems to be someone you can talk not only in the team your working in but also across other offices to discuss differing aspects of the job be it problems with work assigned to you, what it’s like as a graduate with the firm or simply where’s good to eat of a lunchtime/dinnertime.
Once again this varied, some days you'd be inundated with things to do, these maybe mundane jobs like making telephone calls, photocopying etc but also it could be quite interesting like verifying thousands of pounds worth of engineering equipment and how it works.
Like previous this varied as well, in the weeks I spent auditing I was given specific section of it to do, selection, testing and reporting etc, but in my weeks in tax responsibility for work was quite limited due to the nature of the work undertaken.
The skills I have developed, like improving my time management, communication and accounting skills will help me not only in my studies in terms of getting more out of my lectures but also within societies and sports teams I play in.
The Company
I was only in the deloitte office for 2weeks whilst doing the tax side of my rotation, the other 4 weeks I was out at client sites. The office environment that I experienced was laid very back and quiet, people going about there work effeciently.
From the initial application I made right through to the final meeting and party at the end of the scheme, everything was really well organised and you are kept well informed along the way, if ever you had a question there was someone who could answer it fully, even if you had to go through several people.
There was a lot of formal training, talks with partners etc in the beginning week of placement and a lavish 3-4day break to a hotel to do team building activities and meet fellow SVS', given a laptop for the duration, hoodies and stationery so in terms of money spent, quite a lot but in terms of personal training and development directly not as much as I thought there would be, but then I am only here for 7weeks before taking up the opportunity of a graduate job.

The future job prospects are really good..after only 7 weeks with the firm I have been offered a job, and I am in the midst of deciding between service lines.
The Culture
The office is in St Albans, it’s not too special, one nightclub and a few late night bars but that’s it, nothing on the places you can go on a student night out in most university city/towns.
St Albans is not a cheap place to live, although its on the Thameslink line from Kings Cross to Bedford, and the offices are literally across the road from the station so in terms of accessability its good. And socialising is ok, as many parts of London are within 20-30minutes train journey.

Within Deloitte there are loads of opportunities to get involved in a variety of sports, socials etc from men’s/women’s football teams to women’s only club/society. literally almost anything you think of in terms of a club is probably found somewhere within the Deloitte offices across the UK and Europe.
