    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The start of the placement was very challenging, however, after 3 or 4 months into the placement I found my feet and really loved the role I worked in. Microsoft provided an enormous amount of flexibility to do projects outside of my role and my team gave me all the support I needed.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were so supportive and treated me like a valued member of the marketing team. I felt so comfortable with them - not only did we work really well together and get the best from each other but we also had a lot of casual banter and fun nights out.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager pushed me to do all the things I wanted to do in and outside my role and helped me when I was overworked by reducing my work load.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was extremely busy on a daily basis which I loved. My role had one of the most heavy workloads out of all the internships, however I thrive under pressure and love the challenge of pushing myself. I don't think that the workload would be everyone's cup of tea but if you love being overtly busy all the time, it's brilliant.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I literally helped run an entire project of a major education show which was such a great opportunity - I had to source and organised more than 100 devices for the Microsoft stand at the biggest Education technology trade show in the world, BETT Show. From day one I was blogging 3 or 4 posts a week, contributing to our targets and running events on my own or having ownership of certain components of events when the whole marketing team were involved.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I've learned to become a pro at time management and have developed a rich set of marketing skills in social marketing, events management and content creation which I will use both in my studies and beyond.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I can't emphasise how fun and energetic my team was. I had such a great time and got to know most of my colleagues well.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Ever few weeks I would have updates with my manager where we covered what tasks I was working on and had to do over the next week or two. I was made well aware of my commitments and up and coming projects.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I gained a lot from the networks I created outside my role and from the opportunity to have a mentor. I would advise everyone to find themselves a mentor outside of their role to focus on their career development and personal development. The schemes that were available to find a mentor were really popular - I enrolled to a graduate scheme prep programme where I had a mentor who was really helpful and ran fake interviews and presentations with me.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Compared to my friends at other companies, we had a really good social scene with 118 interns to party with :)

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Reading is cheap and only a stone's throw from bustling London.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Pretty appalling

    1/5
