The Role
The internship was an opportunity to experience 'a real work environment', and eliminated any preconceptions about working life. Microsoft is great!
Every day Microsoft feels more like home and I'll be sad to leave.
There's plenty of opportunity to receive help, whether from managers or colleagues, but it's important to find your own way as well.
Being an intern is a real job - taking on too much, too quickly, can come back to bite you.
If you can prove to your manager that you can handle responsibility, you'll find that after 6 months you're manager won't even need to check in on you! You become your own boss.
There is no better learning method than experience! Having taken the Microsoft Internship, I have such an advantage over my fellow graduates!
The Company
The fun is as much as you make it - make friends with your colleagues/peers and learn to enjoy the work!
Microsoft is a business - businesses change, and you need to learn to adapt!
There were plenty of opportunities to add value to the business; it's as much as you make of it!
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
Healthcare/Dental
Microsoft is one of the best companies in the world - competition will be tough!
The Culture
Again, it's as much as you make it - if you only do your role and lock yourself to your desk, you won't have much of a social experience. Get out there!
Your making the big bucks (for an intern) and if you're in Reading (as opposed to London), it's time to get down to the pub for a few rounds!
Reading is a student city; being an intern can put you in the work-life mind-frame, making the nightlife quite boring.
A 9-6 job leaves more room than you'd think to get out there and have fun!
