The Role
I have very much enjoyed my time at Microsoft, it has been good working as part of a very talented team of engineers developing software and contributing towards the testing of a game.
I have worked with people with loads of experience in the job they are doing, and I have found it very valuable talking over problems with them and learning from their experience. They have been supportive of my questions, and anything I do is treated the same way as any other employee had done it.
My manager has been very helpful and encouraged me to question things, however I do feel that he quite often doesn't have enough time to have in-depth talks.
Due to the nature of the work there's a balance between days where I've had to work solidly for the whole day, yet other times are more laid back and I have an opportunity to explore things that interest me.
I was given as much responsibility as everyone else in my team.
Being technical, I have developed so many skills that will help me at the final year of university and throughout my career. It's been especially good to work with so many Microsoft technologies that I wouldn't usually have a chance to use.
The Company
Working in a game studio has been fun, although there could have been more activities in the office.
The Microsoft internship team did a very good job of ensuring a good experience, although the job itself had no real 'internship' structure and minimal formal training for the job.
I got training to be a certified tester and the chance to take Microsoft exams for free and went to a testing conference.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
There are a lot of opportunities within Microsoft although the graduate scheme doesn't have any technical roles.
The Culture
There was weekly trips out for a night out into Reading
Reading isn't too expensive.
Reading has a wide variety of pubs/clubs.
There was a lot of parties and other events especially for the studio I worked for.
