The Role
I was randomly place in a team which was not customer facing, as I had hoped, however an interesting project combined with a good group project which broke up the week made the internshiop great fun.
Everyone in the organisation had time for interns. From my colleagues in the middle office to the chairman of BarCorp [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], who welcomed us on our first day. We had an objective to meet with 8 senior execs, I met with 13 and all of them were very personable and interested in me as well as talking about themselves.
HR were very good. Management support within my team was available, if a little negative.
Because I was involved in 2 projects, I really controlled the pace of my work and therefore was able to manage my time well.
As much as was viable for an 8 week internship.
We had training on presentation skills, banking, soft skills, on the job training and project management training. My placement meant I didn't get as much relevant training as I would have liked as I plan on going into a more customer facing role.
The Company
Better than I expected considering the area I was in. Good banter.
The internship itself was seamlessly set up, aside from a few mixed messages about the graduate scheme. Also, some people were based out of Canary Wharf and only found out on the first day. This resulted in some long journeys.
Absolutely loads of money spent on the best training. Brilliant.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Hopefully will get onto the graduate scheme.
The Culture
The first few weeks we went to the pub every day. As everyone got more busy we had to change our routine and often lunched together instead as people finished later. There were 15 of us and we have made a very cohesive group.
Being from the north, paying 14 quid for a round of three drinks was a bit of a shock to the system. But you soon get used to it and there are cheaper places to go.
Canary Wharf has good bars but you have to go to central London for clubs etc.
There were offers to everyone, although moreso for those in coverage roles e.g. One lad played cricket with his team against some clients.
