The Role
Everyone is really friendly so you can always ask people for advice or help if you're stuck on a bit of work, or just want to find out more about what career paths are on offer.
Varied massively. Due to the nature of a consultancy, some days there is lots of work, some days there is none at all. I experienced both in equal measure really.
When there's actually been work on you are treated basically like a graduate, and they are happy to throw you into projects straight away.
The Company
Hard working but very friendly.
There isn't really a specific placement set-up, as you are basically treated like a graduate, which has it's positives and negatives. When there is plenty of work you are given lots of opportunities so have plenty to do, but when the work dried up you are very much bottom of the food chain and can be left with nothing to do for a few weeks on end.
Atkins are very good at developing their own people. I was sent on several training courses, 1 only a month before I finished, so they did spend some money on training me up, eventhough I was only a placement student.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Some areas of the business are growing massively (nuclear) but others are struggling and are having to make staff redundant (aerospace). I have to to find out if I have been offered a job.
The Culture
Really good community. Spent a lot of lunchtimes playing table football together, and went on work socials bowling, go karting etc.
Bristol is a very expensive city to rent in, especially if you are near the city centre. There is a free (but unreliable) bus service on offer to Atkins which significantly reduces travel costs.
Bristol is top, has something for everyone.
The Sports and Social club have events every week because the office is so big (nearly 1000 people), and then there are further team socials and graduate events so there is always stuff going on.
