The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my work placement in Cummins as it gave me a taste of the working world.I will always value this experience and would definetly reccomend it to anyone.
I always felt valued by my colleagues, even though I was a placement student and lower than others in the company I never was treated that way. After spending a year with my team it will be very difficult to say goodbye.
Management were always there offering guidance and made me feel wanted. There was never a time where I could not turn to my supervisor when stuck or confused in my job
In the beginning I was not very busy as I was just getting to grips with the company, however after 3 months I felt I had the correct work load, enough to ensure I was not bored and was valued in the company, but not too much that I had to constantly work even out of office hours
I was given a lot of responsibilty during my placement as I was part of a small team. This helped me learn alot in a short amount of time. Even though I had a lot of reposonsibilities in my placement my boss and other team members were always readily available to help me in difficult situations
After doing this placement I now feel ready for the working world and realise my strengths but have also identified my weaknesses so I can develop as a person, We received alot of on the job training and some training from an extrenal company which I believe helped me to further my studies. I am now ready to go back into university and finish my degree and have the passion to learn more and develop as a person.
The Company
My office always had a great atmosphere and was very welcoming. There was a good balance, as I was able to work, but the general atmosphere was never too depressing
Very well organised. Training courses were always available and days in different departments were easily arranged. For example I had a day on the shop floor, learning how to couple our generators
We were given a lot of training, including 4 Sykes training modules. It was always easy to develop more as a person
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
International Travel
Working from home
Very appealing, I know I can grow in the company and I am treated as part of the team. Jobs have been offered to me in both Dubai and Africa, and I am very excited for the future
The Culture
Strong social scene as there were soo many of us
More expensive than up north but was expected
Not too much of a nightlife compared to university but it was good to chill
