The Role
I liked the idea of having a small project that I was the owner of and it was something that could potentially help the business after I leave. I was also given a buddy along with 2 other graduates that sat behind me in the same office, so there were always there to help me and make me feel like I was a part of the organisation, even if it was a short term.
The graduates and my buddy were really nice as they will come round and give me information about how the current system works. I had a workshop with each of them, so it was a great insight to the business and the system.
My manager was a busy man as he was the team lead, but when I first joined, he helped me settle down and gave me introduction of the company and the system.
At the start of the internship there was not much to do, and it took about a week to start in earnest. There were times with a lot of work and times with not so much, but it general it was a good level of work.
I was given pretty much full responsibility for the tasks I was assigned, with managerial support where I requested it, and the buck stopped with me on those tasks. I didn't feel overburdened, yet I could directly see the results of my work, which was very satisfying.
As part of the tasks I was assigned, I had to teach myself a lot of new skills in a short time frame, but that meant I learned an awful lot during the internship, and having a task to complete motivated me far more than learning for learnings sake.
The Company
There is a range of people working, at different levels and ages so there is always someone to chat with and have a laugh with
The first day took a bit of setting up, ie emails and things but once that was done it was great
I already had a lot of background knowledge so didn't need too much extra training
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
There is definitely the potential to grow within the company if are successful and show the right attitude.
The Culture
You live and work with your team and region all day everyday for the entire Summer. I think it is virtually impossible not to make life long friends. Although few, our days off and nights out have been some of the best in my life, and that's saying something considering University.
Expensive that's for sure.
Lots of Pubs. We always make sure we hang out twice a week.
Lots of hard work during the week but on sundays we would all go and do something fun. It really depends on where you are based and how great the local activities are!
