The Role
It's been an enjoyable year and I have learnt a lot of transferable skills during this tenure.
Everyone was really supportive and helpful. If I was facing any problems, all I had to do was to ask anyone for help.
Personal development is strongly encouraged at HP and there is a lot of emphasis on learning on the job.
The workload varied on a weekly basis, but overall there was a good balance.
You are trusted to complete your work without the need for constant supervision.
The skills I have gained are completely irrelevant to my degree, but it has been a great insight into what to expect in a real job.
The Company
There was a positive atmosphere throughout the office which made it a conducive environment to learn while on the job.
HP manages the placement scheme quite smoothly. There were no snags when I was being set up or when I was being relieved.
You were encouraged to develop any skills you wanted through traning courses which were available throughout the year.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
HP have a good graduate scheme. If I did return, it would hopefully be to a different area of the business.
The Culture
Most interns lived relatively close to each other, which made socialising easier.
Rent is very cheap in our area of Reading. Everything else seemed to be quite cheap considering how far south Reading is.
Only a few clubs in Reading, but quite often, there are quite often events worth attending.
HP has an active involvement in many charities, for which there are several events to be involved in.
