The Role
I really enjoyed the placement from start to finish as each day was different, learning new skills and gaining lots of experience.
I felt extremely valued by my fellow IP students when we spent time together in Head Office. Throughout my store time I always felt valued by the other members of management and always felt respected by the staff which I managed.
During my store time I was always given feedback from both my Store Manager and Assistant Store Managers. I always had scheduled meetings with my Area Manager who also gave me feedback which I could work on.
During shifts in store I was always busy due to the high levels of productivity. This meant I was never bored and managed to learn a range of skills to facilitate the business in any way I could.
Throughout my training I have always been given a great amount of responsilibty. This is great as it makes me feel valued and allows me to take accountability for my actions.
Throughout my store time I learnt many managerial skills which has given me the ability to lead and manage teams in any kind of business enviuronment. I have developed the ability to be professional as well as confident which is vital in any graduate level job. Taking part in project work has helped me develop my analytical skills as well as working in teams meaning I can develop relationships.
The Company
The office is a very professional yet friendly environment meaning that I always feel comfortable and welcome. Everybody makes the effort to get to know each other and help one another whenever possibly. It is a very open environment as all of the Directors are very approachable. The work ethic is extremely strong right the way through the Company so everybody within the office works extremely hard and morale is high.
The IP programme followed a set structure and was followed right the way through. I was always aware of where I was up to in my training and if any slight changes were made I was informed straight away.
The training is extremely thorough and detailed meaning I have been exposed to every aspect which need to. This has meant that I have been able to learn and develop all the relevant skills in order for me to be effective in managing people.
National Travel
I will not receive a job offer at the end of the placement however with the constant feedback I am always aware of where I stand with the Company and if there is anything I need to work on in order for me to be more suitable for the future role.
The Culture
Yes, all of the IP students get along extremely well and have managed to develop very strong working relationships. We also solcialise out of work often and spend a lot of time speaking to each other when not at work.
Being so close to Manchester it it easy to go to expensive bars and restaurants etc however it is also extremely easy to socialise in the cheaper places. I have lived at home during my placement however I amaware that the cost of living outside of the city centre is relatively reasonable.
Being from Manchester it has been really fun as we have been able to socialise in my local area. I have been able to take my fellow IP's to my favourite places which they have also really enjoyed.
There is constantly activities to take part in after work and at the weekends as we are based so close to the city centre.
