The Role
My placement was excellent. My main objective was to get an insight into the accountancy profession and decide whether or not it was a career I would like to pursue. The experience gave me every opportunity to get involved in the work and my team ensured that I was exposed to a variety of projects during my placement so that I could make a better informed decision.
Everyone in the office was great. The people in my team were very friendly and considerate and there were always people I could ask for help from if I needed it. The people in the office generally were very inclusive which was great.
My counselling manager was away for part of my internship but the other people in the office were there to support me. It might have been useful to have one or two more meetings about my progress.
There was always work for me to be doing. If I had finished office work there were other ongoing projects I could spend my time on.
I was given clear explanations of tasks I had to do and then carried them out myself, with a senior member of staff reviewing the work I did. This worked well because it gave me the chance to have a go at new things but I knew it would be ok if I didn't get it right first time.
My degree isn't very relevant to accountancy but many of the skills I learnt are transferrable so that's useful. We were also given some useful advice on how to do presentations.
The Company
The atmosphere was pretty relaxed. The office was quite lively, with people always willing to stop and have a quick chat.
Most of it was very well done and it was great that transport and things were arrnged for us. However it would have been nice to have our CSR day as the last day.
I was given plenty of opportunities to learn new things. The experience I've had will stand me in good stead for my future career. Also the training was very useful.

BDO football weekend was awesome. Went on quite a few nights out with the interns.
