The Role
Overall I met some nice people and did learn more about the working world. But overall I would say that this was not a great experience, I was very under utilized and often ignored by my colleagues.
The entire rest of my team was based at another location only meeting my task manager on a couple of occasions, I felt very excluded and when I mentioned this I was told that there weren't travel expenses to cover me going to visit my team and I would have to cover the costs myself.
My PDM was very friendly and supportive, and my task manager was always friendly, but the lack of regular contact would mean that they often were not in the office when I needed to talk to someone.
I repeatedly asked for more work as I had a lot of spare time in my role, eventually I began taking on other work from other lines of business and giveback activities, which was very rewarding but outside of my role.
I wasn't given any responsibility within my job role, as I was promised at the beginning of my placement, with 'projects' unfortunately this never happened.
I feel that this year has given me a realistic view of the working world, I think that before I may have been looking through rose tinted glasses. I have also learnt how to conduct myself in business situations.
The Company
I was the only person from my team in the office, there were some other interns in the office, but this also got very competitive for the last 6 months due to the nature of the application process for the graduate scheme.
It was well organised by foundation, i just think that within my business area i was unlucky.
I think that foundation did try to give us training and experience through the career academy's which was helpful.
Working from home
I think I will apply back, however not in the same area of the business.
The Culture
There was a good social environment.
relatively cheap.
Not quite as good as university life, but very good.
This was one of the best things, the opportunity to do giveback, which helped me fill my spare time and keep busy.
