The Role
I loved the time I spent working at the Bank of England - I learnt a huge amount about how each area of the bank works and how they interact with each other. The only bad point about the placement was that I didn't learn as much economics as i would've liked as my placement was quite IT and finance based which meant I didn't learn a huge amount to support my final year at university
I felt highly valued by everyone on my team - they were kind, supportive and always gave me feedback on any written work I produced. I was given a great deal of responsibility and given lots of opportunities to comment in group meetings
Supprt and guidance from my manager was great - i could approach my manager with any queries i had and there were a number of people around the bank that I could go to to ask questions including my mentor.
I found that some weeks i had really busy periods but other weeks i wasn't that busy but this meant that I had time to conduct my own research and start thinking about a question for my final year dissertation
I was given a great deal of responsibility - i was left to work independently and had my work reviewed by other members of the team when i was finished.
I receieved some amazing IT and soft skills training which will most certainly help my degree studies - definitely skills for life. I didn't however learn a huge amount about economics
The Company
everyone was really friendly - there were lots of team jokes but when we were close to a deadline, everyone became more serious and made sure the work was completed on time
The placement was very well organised. The training opportunities were great and we were well supported from start to end
any courses which were relevant to my roll were available to attend which was fantastic
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
You may be able to get fast tracked through to the grad scheme but you will not get offered a job off the back of your placement - you have to go through the same process as other applicants who haven't worked at the bank before
The Culture
We all went out as a group after work on many occasions
I lived in central london and it was very expensive
Nightlife in London is obviously great!
I volunteered at a homeless shelter twice a month and got involved in many sporting activities including the gym
